In Gaza, every cracked wall, weakened pillar and unstable roof is a threat to life, yet the machinery and materials need to remove the rubble, make buildings safe and begin reconstruction remain deliberately blocked by the Israeli government. Today we've heard stories of people being pulled from the wreckage of a collapsed residential building, which left 20 dead and dozens still trapped. 

Rescuers have been working with their hands because the equipment that could save lives is simply not there, due to the Israeli governments ongoing access restrictions. Wilful political failure is seeing these abominations continue with impunity, and with no thought to the justice and accountability demanded by international humanitarian law. 

Oxfam is calling for the Israeli government to immediately open all Gaza's available crossings and allow unconditional access to emergency machinery, recovery materials and aid.
