10th SEPTEMBER 2026 | YEMEN: Crisis Update

Ferran Puig, Oxfam’s Yemen Country Director warns: “Recent escalations present a dire threat to civilians in Yemen, who have already endured more than a decade of conflict and humanitarian crisis. The humanitarian impact is already severe. Civilians have been killed and injured, and people from more than 5,600 households have already been displaced in just a few days of fighting”.

“Two thirds of the population in Yemen needs humanitarian assistance, and thousands are facing famine. Further military escalations will deepen hunger and displacement and disrupt the humanitarian assistance millions depend on to survive”.

More than 85,000 people have been displaced since the fighting escalated across the country. 

Yemen, the second largest country on the Arabian Peninsula faces one of the world’s most serve humanitarian crisis, yet UK government funding is set to decrease by 25-30% in 2026/7. 

The world can’t turn a blind eye. Civilians in Yemen deserve protection and a lasting peace. Together with 18 other international humanitarian organisations operating in the country, we call on all parties to respect and uphold international humanitarian law and ensure safe and sustained humanitarian access. Protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure is never an option; it must be guaranteed at all times, for everyone.
